The font used on the front of the prospectus is not consistent throughout the pages and several different fonts are used. Also the fact that on the front this is printed using foiling on a white/grey distracting background it makes the title of the prospectus incredibly illegible and the font size is too small in comparison to the cover.
The large geometric shapes in dark pastel colours are also a distracting factor to the title on the front cover and no not seem to flow with the back cover due to the change in opacity. The font created for Leeds College Of Art was also not completed and contain various faults including the some of the serifs on the letterforms. However I did like the choice of colours on the front cover.
This is the first page and contains the contents, and as pictured here the logo for Leeds College Of Art is hardly visible and the layout has not been considered in conjunction with shape choice for the contents text. Also the various types of stock used show inconsistency.
This double page spread in particular does simply not work, the choice of colour on the left along with the background makes the body copy text incredibly difficult to read due to the similar tones used. The photograph of Simone Wonnacott (Prinicipal) portrays the College as corporate and "business" looking which is untrue and the college holds an ethos of creativity and design. The gradients have also been used on this page to fill in the negative space however these are unnecessary, yet without them the page looks far too empty and the composition lacks substance.
This double page spread uses a few different fonts which do not keep consistant with the College's font. By using several different fonts including serif and sans serif as well as a font for the description which is more flowing and looks "handwritten" the clashing of styles portrays inconsistency and does not look professional for an art college. The composition of images on the right hand page also portrays this idea as the bottom two images do not align correctly and the sizes make the page look "top heavy".
The layout of the inset page also cuts off part of the "OF" off the page and onto the other side which again portrays inconsistency. The colours used on these pages for fonts and background also make the text illegible due to the high amount of capital letters used rather than a range of lower and upper case. The stock used on this page is also different to the other matte pages as this is thinner and has a high gloss which doesn't work well together.
This image is of the double page spread about the Graphic Design course and visually I do not feel that the prospectus shows the enthusiasm and artful feeling on the courses at the college. For example the photographs used do not showcase students work and the pages are heavily text based with clashing colours and varied fonts.
I feel that this prospectus could be improved overall by keeping a consistent stock type; either matte or gloss, by keeping a consistent colour number and also by using darker text to make the blocks of text legible. The prospectus could also be improved by the types of photographs it uses to show its incredibly talented students and history, rather than stock images taken off the internet; the College has been running since 1846 and the prospectus I feel does not do the College justice.
