The criminals wish to free a drug baron being extradited to America for trial by holding the airport to ransom until they all safely escape on another plane. However, if they'd known that Holly McClane was on a flight home to the very airport they were hijacking, they would have picked another day.

From watching the film and also taking screen shots of important parts of the trailer I have identified key parts of the film which could form to be part of the movie poster. I also need to consider the fact that the most can only be two colours and also it will be screen printed so therefore the style of the poster needs to work so it can be made into positives to be exposed. The poster shown above does represent the dark features of the genre of the film, as an alternative adaptation of the film its really interesting to see how they can be brought from the past and redesigned. The use of charcoal really enhances this and makes it quite striking through the use of black and white.
Saul Bass

Saul Bass is known for his iconic minimalistic design which is incredibly alternative in comparison to the highly photographic movie posters which are usually used. He uses a simple graphic which sums up the entire film into one iconic image. His design also uses black/white along with red/yellow and orange which makes his work contrast and be incredibly strong due to the limited colour palette. This also links to my current brief because only two colours are allowed.
There have been other artists which have used a similar vector style for alternative movie posters which is Olly Moss.
His work usually involves using a silhouette of a character and using the shape to for the composition of the other contents. This piece in particular I feel is incredibly strong due to knowing the film's iconic character and as an alternative poster the colour combinations create extreme contrasts which makes them stand out.

This work I think is incredibly successful as alternative posters because it focuses on important moments within films, the text is also minimal with the image dominating the composition. The simplistic design is really appealing and I think I will consider experimenting with vector designs for my own poster for Die Hard 2.

The original poster does portray the film as a whole due to the use of black, most of the scenes are at night so this does flow through the poster and print promotion. I will consider the use of darker colours to reflect this in my own poster. However the poster does contain many elements of content which I feel don't work together as a composition. The large text and action shots in the background behind the image of Bruce Willis contrast each other and therefore the eye is drawn to all different elements around the poster. To create an alternative poster for this film I feel as though the film needs to be summarised and simplified to create a stronger aesthetic.
